The Refuge is located in Thures (m.1684), largest one of the villages in Val Thuras (Highest part of Susa valley). The village lays in a natural environment still untouched, particularly beautiful, with wide silent spaces, splendid summery bloom of every alpine variety and a lot of wilds . Thures is also of great interest for its typical constructive technology (still found in Troncea and Argentera valleys and in the neighbor Queyras ) characterized by stone houses overhung by imposing wood structures and a roof realized with larch tiles (scandole ) . The building used for the Refuge (typical example of the area rural architecture ) stays on the village small square in front of a beautiful octagonal Fountain, dated 1623, which holds carved in the stone the symbols of the Dauphinat, and that has suggested the name for the Refuge itself. The building was made in 1714 (as it is testified by the record on the facade monk that holds the truss of the roof ) and has been restructured in nineties with a technique that has conserved all the possible structures and masonries and restored those unusable with the same materials and same techniques. |
